Openoffice is a great alternative to Microsoft Office, but if you’re in school, your school may be able to provide a discount. Your employer may be able to provide you with a discount as well.

What software do you recommend?

For a good, free antivirus, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.

For a good anti-malware solution, I recommend MalwareBytes. I sell a pro version that will run a scan in the background, while the free version will only scan the computer when you tell it to scan.
